	Scuba Diving

St. Thomas, which is situated in one of the largest shallow reef areas in the Caribbean, offers some of the finest diving in the world. Located on the grounds of th Renaissance Grand Beach Resort is the Chris Sawyer Diving Center which offers a full array of dives for both the experienced and beginning diver. Trips depart from the dock daily, with the exception of Monday. Many excellent dive sites are within minutes of the dock.

The boat diving operation is based on the idea of giving outstanding service to small groups of divers. If ever there was a vessel designed and built for the diver Fool's Gold is it; 42 feet long, with plenty of power. Water access in and out of the stern gate from the water level platform is a snap.

To bring all of the fabulous diving in the Virgin Islands to you, half-day two tank dives and afternoon one and two tank dives are available. Cost are as follows:

THE RHONE

The R.M.S. Rhone is truly one of the great dives in the world today. The Rhone is located just over 20 miles from St. Thomas, near Salt Island in the British Virgin Islands. This is a two-dive trip of extraordinary proportions and should not be missed. The Rhone is a 360 foot long shipwreck. She went down in the great hurricane of October 29, 1867. The trip includes two great dives, equipment, snacks and beverages. A catered lunch is included as are soft drinks. Proper Proof of Citizenship is required.

NIGHT DIVES

Both a beach and boat night dive are offered during the week. The beach dive is at nearby Coki Beach and is one of the best beach dives anywhere. All equipment and transportation is included. If you are new to night diving this is a great way to get started. The night boat dive location is determined from one of five outstanding sites which are available. The location is determined based on the visibility, lack of currents, moderate depth and of course, lots to see.

ENTRY SCUBA EXPERIENCE

This class is especially designed for those who have never tried scuba diving before. If you have ever wanted to explore the fascinating undersea world the Entry Scuba Experience is the safe and fun way to do it. With a Certified Diving Instructor you will be taken through the three phases of the Entry Scuba Experience. All classes are small and personalized.

The first phase is the seaside classroom where all the activities of the day will be described. You will be informed thoroughly about diving equipment, safe diving practices and marine life. The second phase is the shallow water training. The shallow water practive provides a diver with the confidence and ability to handle the equipment during the dive. The final phase is the open water scuba dive. Your instructor will lead you off the beach on a complete tour of the reef. You'll see colorful coral, sea fans and a multitude of friendly tropical fish. After completion of the dive you will be returned to the dive center.

PADI CERTIFICATION COURSE

For those who have dreamed of coming to the Caribbean to learn to dive, this is the ultimate program for you. In just five, fun-filled days you can become a Certified PADI Openwater Diver.

This program has been designed with the vacationing diver in mind. The course consists of five classroom sessions, four shallow water or pool lessons and four open water dives.

All courses are conducted by PADI Certified Instructors. Upon completion of the course you will have learned everything you need to know about scuba equipment, how diving affects the body, and the underwater environment. You will also have become proficient in all water skills necessary to participate in the sport of diving with the maximum of safety and enjoyment.
