EAST has made a significant step in the right direction. The Board and staff spent two days at Maho Bay Camps on St. John over the Memorial Day weekend during the first Board and staff retreat.

The retreat was funded in part by a grant from the Environmental Support Center with resource materials provided by the National Wildlife Federation and The Nature Conservancy,

Jerome Ringo, grassroots organizer and environmental activist organizer, facilitated the workshop. The retreat had an extensive agenda. Among the most important items were the updating of EAST's mission statement, the identification and prioritization of goals and objectives, and formation of a five year action plan. Under the setting of shade trees and a breathtaking view of the ocean, the Board and staff reviewed the past accomplishments of the organization and began strategic planning for the future.

EAST has an updated mission statement, seven prioritized goals and a working action plan for the next five years. To continue this important step, EAST hopes to secure funding for an annual retreat.
