Arriving from
Outside the United States
When traveling to the United States Virgin Islands from outside the United States, the Immigration requirements are the same as other locations in the United States.
Due to the proximity of the surrounding foreign islands, there are some important reminders for travelers. They are as follows:
- The United States Virgin Islands consist of three major islands, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. Though the British Virgin Islands share a similar name, they are under the jurisdiction of another country and, therefore, are a foreign location. Traveling to one of the United States Virgin Islands from one of the British Virgins will require reporting to the nearest designated Immigration Service office location (see INS office locations and services in the territory) for inspection.
- All other islands, except Puerto Rico, are considered foreign locations. Immigration inspection will also be required.
