Summary Update on Virgin Islands Recovery
Information from the The Virgin Islands Daily News
- Christian Reformed World Relief Committee team & the Mennonite
Disaster Service in St. Thomas from the states to aid in the recovery
effort.
- Government economists say that FEMA underestimated Hurricane
Marilyn's damage by about $300 million. FEMA says figures are only a
preliminary assessment.
- Army Corps of Engineers distribute water from portable tanks. They
suggest all water be boiled before consumption.
- St. Croix scheduled to get 54 cruise ships in November...three more
than St. Thomas expects for the same time period.
- Yesterday was the first day of school, since Hurricane Marilyn hit, for
many of St. Thomas' public school students.
- All St. Croix phones should work by mid-December.
- Coast guard reported back to normal and making sure shipping channels
are clear for navigation.
- Crews work on St. John's underwater power cable. Power is brought to
Cruz Bay, St. John.
